More commonly, heart problems develop as we get older, usually rearing its ugly head for the first time in middle age or later. In a recent study done by Professor Samer Hamidi from the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Smart University (HBSMU) that for every 100,000 cases of heart disease in the UAE 340 cases lead to mortality. What Is A Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction Or MI)?
The blockage is often a result of atherosclerosis – a buildup of plaque, known as cholesterol, and other fatty substances. Plaque inhibits and obstructs the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart, thus reducing the flow to the rest of the body.
If the blood and oxygen supply is cut off severely or for a long period of time, muscle cells of the heart suffer severe and devastating damage and die. The result is damage or death to the area of the heart that became affected by reduced blood.

TAVI Procedure

What is TAVR? (TAVI)
A TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), also known as TAVR, is a minimally invasive heart procedure that replaces a narrowed or leaky aortic valve using a catheter (tube) inserted through a blood vessel, typically in the groin, avoiding open-heart surgery. A new valve, mounted on a stent, is delivered via the catheter, expanded to push the old leaflets aside, and immediately begins regulating blood flow, offering a quicker recovery, shorter hospital stays, and a safer option for high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis.
During this minimally invasive procedure, a new valve is inserted without removing the old, damaged valve. The new valve is placed inside the diseased valve. The surgery may be called a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
